Folukemi Akinmeji

Folukemi Akinmeji was appointed to the Board of First Insurance Brokers in July 2026 and brings over 20 years of professional experience in the oil & gas sector, financial services and consulting. With proven expertise and knowledge in regional and international public policy, stakeholder management, corporate communications, government relations, regional and geopolitical analysis, foreign policy, international relations, community engagement and legislative & regulatory affairs.

She is the Founder & CEO of The Mindfulness & Inner Transformation (M.I.N.T) Group of Companies where she teaches individuals and organisations the intersectionality of spirituality, self-cultivation and societal change using the transformational tools and practices of mindfulness.

Prior to her appointment, Folukemi spent 14 years with Chevron Nigeria Limited where she held numerous cross-functional positions of increasing responsibility within the Policy, Government, and Public Affairs function in Nigeria (Lagos, Abuja & Escravos) and the United States (San Ramon, California & Washington DC). In that role, she interacted with a wide range of key stakeholders within the Presidency, the bi-cameral National Assembly and all relevant Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), media organisations, civil society organisations, and think tanks; amongst many others to help influence public policy in support of Chevron’s business objectives and advocacy efforts on key issues with critical industry stakeholders. Other professional work experiences included short stints in the financial services sector, consulting and advisory in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Her academic background includes a B.A. (Hons) in Philosophy from the Lagos State University, Lagos, Nigeria; an MSc in Corporate Communications & Public Affairs from the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland; a Masters in International Public Policy (MIPP) with a concentration in African Studies from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D.C, USA; an MBA Certificate in Strategy & Planning from the Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh Business School, Scotland and certificate courses at the Cambridge University, United Kingdom. In addition, she is a 2015 Fellow of the Center for Strategic International Studies (CSIS) Abshire Inamori Leadership Academy (AILA), in Washington, DC, and a Member of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA). She has also attended various local and international leadership and management training programmes.

Folukemi is a life-long learner with keen interests in Buddhism, Eastern Philosophy, Jungian Psychology and Governance systems. Her passion is to lead a life of service dedicated to teaching the transformational benefits of mindfulness, mentoring young people and supporting humanitarian causes close to her heart.
